Show runner Howard Gordon recently admitted along with star Kiefer Sutherland that the series would be ending, but remained tight lipped about how. Last week it was revealed that a casting call went out for a new character that would be integral to the final episodes of the series, but what Gordon didn’t reveal is what familiar faces would be returning. In the promo for next week’s episode we caught glimpses of Gregory Itzin at conniving former President Charles Logan, but in an interview with the British talk show Spy TV UK, Gordon revealed that none other than Dennis Haysbert’s President David Palmer would also be returning. How is this possible, when last we saw Palmer he was the victim of an assassination in season five?

“We actually found a really cool way to bring him back,” Gordon reveals, “yet he won’t have full use of his voice from the bullet wound to his throat. We do explain that his head wound wasn’t fatal due to a metal plate that most U.S. Presidents today have implanted around their skulls to prevent penetration from an assassin’s bullet. It isn’t like Wolverine’s adamantium, but it’s pretty close.”
